Drawing Education – Worldwide! Continuities – Transfers – Mixtures

From early modern to modern times, drawing was firmly anchored in the realities of European society as a cultural technique. Based on this fact, the present volume asks for the first time about the significance of drawing and drawing education in other cultural areas. Indigenous methods of drawing and sign-learning in Arabic, Asian, Latin American, North American and European countries are addressed, as well as historical transfer processes of didactic methods, aesthetic norms and educational institutions of drawing instruction.

About the Editors:

After Magister and PhD in Tbilisi and Munich Nino Nanobashvili was a research assistant in the project “Episteme der Linien” at the Central Institute for Art History. Currently she is a curatorial assistant at the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen and worked lately on the exhibition “Florence and its painters” in the Alte Pinakothek. In her research she focuses on drawing practices and processes in the early modern time.

Tobias Teutenberg studied art history in Kassel, Eichstädt, Augsburg, Paris and Munich and worked as a research associate and assistant at the Central Institute for Art History and the LMU in Munich. His research focuses on the art history of perception in the 19th and 20th centuries.
