Die Erosion des Kosmos: Zur Bedeutung der kopernikanischen Wende

Abstract The emergence of the modern age: for Hans Blumenberg, this is what becomes visible in the Copernican reform. One world is being replaced by another: instead of a static, ordered, closed, hierarchical, theologically dominated cosmos, we find an immanent system of order, which the modern age has designed itself and to which it belongs at the same time as one of its parts. The paper reconstructs and interprets the main theses and arguments of Blumenberg’s major work, The Genesis of the Copernican World, with special attention on the emergence and erosion of the concept of cosmos, which brings about a new understanding of the world and a new consciousness of reality.
