Gibt es eine Ethik des Sehens? Plädoyer für eine verantwortungsbewusste Bilderpolitik

Abstract This essay addresses the question of how an ethically responsible and socially engaged use and consideration of the medium of photography is possible in relation to violent and racialising depictions of Sinti and Roma. Using examples of alternative photographic and scientific practices, including those from the new RomArchive – the digital archive of the Sinti and Roma, an attempt is made to turn the gaze from the racialised objects to the racialising subjects, as Toni Morisson has done in her book Playing in the Dark. My endeavor is to show why the establishment of a Europe-wide socially engaged journalism is necessary, accompanied by a social strengthening of local and free reporting.
