Mitverantwortung in „sorgenden Gemeinschaften“ als eine Form der Weltgestaltung und Teilhabe im Alter

Abstract First of all, we look at the central statements made in the Seventh Report on Ageing by the Federal Government on questions of shared responsibility and (productive) care for older people in the community, in organisations and associations as well as in the neighbourhood. In this context, the subsidiarity discourse in this report is also taken up, as it emphasises the principle of “shared” responsibility, which is particularly suitable for describing the “coexistence” of activities carried out on a fulltime and voluntary basis. In the analysis of the themes of existence, it is shown that productive care for others is also a central theme in old age: it stands out from the variety of themes of existence. It can be concluded from this that municipalities, organisations and churches should develop and present offerings that also address people in their ninth and tenth decades as active, committed individuals. However, as our analysis shows, this is usually not the case. This paper also analyses the engagement of old people in community centres. Once again, it becomes clear how strongly the motive of shared responsibility – for people of the same or subsequent generations – is also pronounced in old age.
