Note sull’assicurazione marittima a Dubrovnik (Ragusa) tra Tre e Quattrocento
Abstract The paper aims to analyse the oldest insurance contracts recorded in the notary’s books of Dubrovnik (Ragusa) between the end of the 14th and the beginning of the 15th century. The collected documentation is of primary importance in order to understand the risk management strategies used at that time within the Adriatic region, due to the lack of archival evidences of insurance contracts’ use. Moreover, through these documents, it is possible to reconstruct the main trade routes in which the Dalmatian city was integrated and the contribution of foreign merchants in consolidating, through the use of capital and new legal tools, its role as major trade hub in the southern Adriatic.
