Abstract An unusual case of frequent communion reception is reported from the city of Augsburg between 1480 and 1482. The priest of the Mauritius Church Johannes Molitor (1435–1482) came into conflict with the inquisitor Heinrich Institoris, author of the infamous „Malleus Maleficarum“ (Hammer of Witches). The case of Institoris v Molitor reveals how useful the Roman sources can be for illuminating regional court cases. This opens up a wide field for research, and not just about the Inquisition.
