Johannes Rothes Ratsgedichte – verfasst im Interesse des Landesherrn?

Abstract  This paper examines the ‘Ratsgedichte’, poems written before 1409 by Johannes Rothe, who was a scribe for the Eisenach Town Council. In these poems the city is described metaphorically as a human body. Just as the human body can only function if all organs work together, a city only prospers if the different classes and groups cooperate. The work is situated between the interests of the Town Council on the one hand and the interests of the Thuringian landgraves on the other.
