Genealogie verbindet Zur Funktion eines neomediävalen Motivs im Prequel ‚House of the Dragon‘ und seinen Paratexten

Abstract

The chapter examines the TV series ‘House of the Dragon’ as part of transmedia expansion in a popular epic fantasy franchise. Focussing on the paratexts of the first season, it analyses how neo-medieval motifs and narratives, such as the myth of origin, succession and genealogy, are used to embed the prequel into the pre-existing storyworld while enriching it at the same time. The chapter argues that by elaborating the past of the secondary world, its neo-medieval appearance is stressed and intensified through transmedia storytelling.
