Individuality, alienation, identity? The coordinates of Bildung in Humboldt's and Hegel's writing

The competence-oriented educational programmes of the present threaten to lose their connection to the individual as the subject of the educational process. The examination of Humboldt’s classical educational theory and Hegel’s concept of Bildung as alienation can serve as a corrective here. Their common vanishing point is the idea of Bildung as openness to the world.
